OSU Extension and Agricultural Resource Economics
"Ties To The Ranch" will be a DVD-based workshop on intergenerational transfer of family ranchland, and will use a videographic storytelling of a fictitious ranching family who face all the trials of intergenerational transfer, and navigate to a successful outcome. Field study cards focusing on upland prairie and wetlands of the Willamette Valley, western Oregon. This is part four in the development of a series of illustrated, weatherproof field study cards for use by schools in teaching students about the flora and fauna local to the Mid-Willamette Valley. COMPLETED! 2008 Starker Lecture Series focusing on "The Role of Planted Forests in the Pacific Northwest: Meeting Societal Demands in a Dynamic Environment". Forestry Media Center produced the four lectures for both a live audience and a live stream; now the lectures can be viewed as streaming media on the internet. This production will be premiered at the Society of American Foresters national Convention inPortland, in October 23-28, 2007.
Introduction to Forestry Distance Education Version
COMPLETED!"Introduction to Forestry", a 10-week course for beginning university students, provides a broad overview of forests, forestry, forest engineering and wood science and engineering. This course, which has been offered for decades in a traditional classroom format, is designed for all students interested in forest resources and human uses of those resources. It provides an overview of forest attributes and issues world wide, with strong emphasis on the United States and especially Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. The goal is to help students know, understand, and articulate essential principles of sustainable forestry.
With the leadership and production skills of the Forestry Media Center, the course is now offered world-wide as video-based distance education materials (both on-line and on DVD) through Oregon State University's eCampus.

COMPLETED!"Inquiry At Hinkle Creek: Doing Science In Our Forests" - This educational video uses the research under way at the Hinkle Creek Paired Watershed Study to demonstrate to middle and high school students how the scientific method is put to at work in a large-scale forestry research project. At the heart of the process is how scientists use their creativity as well as their scientific training to ask the right questions. COMPLETED! "Voices of Forestry: Celebrating 100 Years of the OSU College of Forestry" To help celebrate the Centennial of the College, we produced an engaging visual retrospective of key events in the College’s history, using archival photographs, film footage, and interviews with alums. Our goal was to show how key events affected the College, and how the College affected forestry in Oregon and beyond. Alums, particularly those who participate regularly in College activities, and donors comprised our target audience. The 20-minute video was well received.
